The wrong way hitchhiker and a little help from above   Author: 168  Category:(Angels) Created:(9/11/1999 7:07:00 PM) This post has been Viewed (1533 times) I must start out my story by telling you that I do not pick up hitch hikers. In todays world I would never even consider to picking up a young male hitchhiker with my two young children in the car with me. However one day in August of this year I was heading back from Winchester, VA. going to Strasburg when I passed a male who looked to be in his early 20's. Rather large in size looking pretty muscular. He was walking in the direction towards Strasburg. When I passed him he was walking in a stretch of the road where there would be no house for about another mile or two. He was not hitch hiking but a little voice inside me said "Go pick him up" I started to slow my car down and was telling myself"Girl you have your children in the car with you don't pick up this stranger" I was telling myself all kinds of good reasons not to. Then I heard it again. A little more demanding this time " I said go pick him up" I slowed down almost to a stop. I said silently "Lord if this is you, which I think it is, I am going to ask my 9 year old son what he thinks." Now normally he would tell me "Get real Mommy" So this is what I expected from him. So I asked him" Honey that man back there walking, Do you think we should see if he needs a ride? " My son looked at me for a moment and then said " I think it will be ok this one time." I was nervous but I turned the car around. When I got back near the guy I rolled my window over and hollered over to him" Do you need a lift?" He cautiously approached the car. He was noticing it was only me and my two young children. When he was at the window I noticed he was not a man at all but a young boy. Fourteen at the most. He was just rather big for his age. He shyly said"yes" So I smiled and said " Where to?" He told that he was heading to Middletown. " I said " honey you are walking the wrong way." When he got in the car he continued to tell me that him and two friends had been down at the river and got seperated in the woods. His family had just moved to the area and he had no idea where he was. He had already walked 2 hours just to get to the road I saw him on. He had just reached the road when I passed him. He said he just guessed at which way to head. I took him home and dropped him off. I felt so happy that I was able to help this boy out. All I could think of is what could have happened if I had not LISTENED to the little voice that told me to pick him up. I know without out a doubt that God used me that day. It was just a little miracle. It showed me God is looking out for all his children and when we are in need he will provide. The little boy was lost and heading in the wrong direction and I was used to get him safely home. I did not tell this young man of the voice I heard because I could tell he was already a little scared taking a ride from a stranger. But I know he was happy to see his house. How it changed my life: I will listen more closely to that little voice we all sometimes hear inside us. You never know. But if you are wondering if I am gonna start picking up hitchhikers. The answer is NO only if I am told like I was that day.
