Love Never Dies

On July 1, 1996, my grandmother passed away. It's not like it was a

shock to anyone, she had been sick for a long time. Cigarettes was her

enemy. But I told myself that she was going to be okay, because every time

I visited her at the hospital she was sitting up, talking and most of all

complaining about how awful the hospital was. I made her smile. My

grandma loved to play Bingo, it was her favorite pastime. She went at least

three time a week. But she was in the hospital and she couldn't go to

Bingo, so i brought bingo to her. I went out and bought her a couple of

those Bingo lottery games. She was in such high spirits. Two days after

that the hospital released her and she went home with my aunt. I thought

that was a good sign, but they really sent her home to die. A few days after

being home my grandma woke up in the middle of the night and asked for some

bread pudding, her favorite, then after eating the pudding she fell asleep

and ten minutes later she was gone. It hit me hard, very hard. My

grandma and I were very close. She was so excited about my wedding, the

date was set for June 1997, she said that she wanted to help me plan the

entire thing. But she died a year before the wedding. Part of me was

a little angry with her for leaving me, she promised to watch me walk down

the aisle and she said that she would be there when my husband and I started

a family, but she wasn't there. It was the only promise she broke to me.

Four years later, its still hard to talk about my grandma. She was a

wonderful women. I will never forget her and I know she's watching me. I

know she's making sure everything will be okay. My wedding was very

emotionally for everyone. In honor of my grandma, my sisters and I made a

special corsage, to be worn by her oldest daughter. Even on the happiest

day of my life, part of me was filled with sadness. But even though

she is not here today, I love her very much, the whole family does, and

we will never forget all she has done and what she meant to all of us.

We promised to let our children, her great grandchildren, know about her and

to teach them what she taught all of us. Love, kindness, generosity and

respect to everyone and everything around us.

How it changed my life:

It changed my life in many ways. Everyday I think about her, no matter what I am doing or where I am. I think to myself, would grandma want me to do this? I am also having trouble going to my aunts house in New Port Richey. That is where my grandma died and she lived in a single wide mobile home next to my aunt's house. I find it hard to face that place. Too many sad memories. I have been there only once in the past four years

Spring is coming

Date: 9/12/1999 2:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 168    I thought your story was very touching. The only thing that I found truely sad about it is you are unable to go to your aunts for the reason of not wanting to see the trailer. You should try to remember all the wonderful memories of your grandmother. They are powerful enough I am sure to over rule the sad memories. It sounds to me that your grandmother was a wonderful lady and it is good that you remember her with loving feelings. I am sure she loved you equally. I am also guessing that she would want you to still visit your aunt. She would not want to stop you from visiting another loved one. Maybe you can visit with your aunt and tell her how much you miss your grandma and maybe that can help you. God bless you.
Date: 9/28/1999 7:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 608    In 1986, I too lost my grandma whom I loved very dearly, I go visit her grave often, even used to go there to eat my lunch with her when I worked in the same town, every birthday of hers, she is still a big part of my life, I too ask myself what would grandma want me to do? She died at here home, all alone, 7 years to the day after my grandpa had died. She wasn't expected to die. I have since named my daughter after her. I really miss her love, advice, hugs and just seeing her. I went back one time to the house where grandma and grandpa lived before they sold it. I could still see me as a little girl running through the basement, although it seemed a lot smaller now. God bless you.

I would always tell her that she would never leave me & when she became ill - she suffered for along time (approx 4 yrs). But, when she died it was so hard to let her go - but, I knew it wouldn't suffer anymore. I loved & I still love her so very much - it's hard to explain.
