Although I wasn't the only person that witnessed it, no one ever brought it up after it happened. Sometimes I think it was an angel. When I was 8, my family went on a camping trip with alot of other families. Our fathers were all divers in the Tenn. river. Our mothers would watch us kids all day, letting us swim, ride our bikes, ect. At night, all the families would come together and eat. It was some of the most fun in my life. We had a pet cat that always came with us on extended trips and these camp-outs usually lasted for about a week at a time. Princess was our cats name and she was solid white. My mother is very superstitous and wouldn't dream of having a black cat. As for any other color, that was okay, but our Princess was all white. One night, or rather, I should say, one morning, we woke up and we couldn't find her. She always slept right outside our camper. My parents were very strict! about having pets in the house or camper. As I called for her, I noticed one of my dad's friends, one of the other divers, walking toward us. He walked over to my dad and whispered in his ear. I can still remember the feeling I got in my stomach. My dad came over to me and bent down on his knee. He said Princess was in Heaven. My dad, his friend, and I all walked down the road just a little ways and we found her. She had obvisouly been hit by a car. Another one of the families had brought a shoe box with their sons matchbox cars in it. They emptied it and told us we could use it to bury her in. I laid a napkin in it, and my dad laid Princess in it. Then I remembered her favorite toy. It was a small cloth barbie doll hat. It was red and Princess had a great time playing with it. I laid it in the box between her paws. We buried her not far from the water underneath a tree. Then my dad laid a concrete block on top of the grave. He said it could be a grave marker! and it wouldn't allow another animal to dig her up. A few days later, I think maybe two, something terrible happened. It was late in the afternoon, I mean around seven o'clock. It didn't get dark until around nine. One of the little kids was missing. His name ws Ryan. His mother was hysterical. Sometimes, on these trips, a bunch of us kids would go 'exploring', but we weren't allowed to get so far away from the camp that we couldn't hear our mothers holler for us. Ryan had went 'exploring' with a group of kids, but when they came back, he wasn't with them. All of our dads were searching the woods and our mothers were trying to calm down ryan's mom. Ryan was four years old at this time. After about an hour, someone called the police. A game warden came to the camp to find out what was going on. He called about half a dozen others and with all of our dads they formed a huge search party. Just before sun up the next morning, Ryan was found. One of the game warden'! s found him 3 miles from the camp asleep under a tree. He was so dirty. I'm a huge chicken when it comes to the dark. When I'm home alone, every light in the house is on. But one thing that was odd about Ryan was that he wasn't scared. His mother hugged him over and over. Then she said 'Where have you been?' He answered 'I was chasing the white kitty.' Nobody thought anything of it. Just as the game wardens were about to go home after making sure he was physically alright, his mother noticed that one of his hands were clenched in a fist. She asked him what he had as she opened it. Before he could answer, my red barbie doll hat fell to the ground. He said it belonged to the white kitty. Everyone was silent. ryan's mom just looked at mine like sahe didn't know what to say. Finally she said 'I'm just glad you're okay.' My dad and I went back to Princess's grave to see how it looked since it had obvisouly been dug up. It looked just like we had left it. Sometimes! when I think about it, even though people may say it's a good story or that it has a good ending, it scares me because I know there is such a thing as ghosts.
