What is with society and being alone?

Eh slightly a rant but not really. I'm just wondering whats with society and being alone. I try not to care what others think but I can't help to feeling a bit 'odd' or 'pathetic' every now and then just based on you know what we're taught.

I tend to like to be alone. I'm friendly, I have hobbies, and I love going places but it seems that very rarely unless I'm out alone I just don't enjoy it. Like with karaoking: I started going to meet people
Don't get me wrong I like people but it seems I have a real issue with people my age...seems no matter how nice they might be some of their immaturity just really bugs me. I find of my human interaction I enjoy the adults at church and their comities (Unitarians :) just incase anyone was questioning lol!) more then the teens and the 'cons', I enjoy the DJ and waiters at karaoke more then I do the stupid high school/college kids who seem to have one goal for the night...okay maybe two, etc etc...

But grrg after days like today society really gets to me. I dunno maybe its just a 'longing' to fit something I'm never going to but I know I'm not just paranoid I've heard it before from people (':o you ate alone at a restraunt? How sad!'> so it does exist :p! Like for this demo I'm making: I want a nice big celebration of it...but I have these moments in life for that and I realize the lack of people who give a dang in my life. I have my sister and my friend who survived the crash but both of them have been highly not reliable in the past (neither made my bday last year but the friend had an excuse (we weren't talking then), and outside of that they tend to go out of their way to be busy when I'm around...well I dunno that was my friend in the past we'll see how it goes now she's well.) Blah maybe when it's done I'll just have a good ol night to myself like usual and try to not think about danged society.

Oh another thing! I read lots of magazines (eh various reasons...for the record I'm not talking J14 here LOL!) and other various articles in other places that catch my eye and I constantly see for advice that guys are scared off by girls who don't have a gaggle of friends or that its even a warning sign that that girl is umm for lack of a g rateder word 'catty'. I don't think that judgement is fair at all! Sure I ain't out for a guy right now but it does worry me that when I do meet 'Mr. Right' my lack of a gaggle and social life might scare him off...

So what do you guys think? What do you think of someone who eats alone in public or goes to a movie alone? Anyone here enjoy just being alone? Alrighty I need sleep I gots church if I get up tomorrow LOL!

Date: 10/16/2004 11:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 62893    I agree with you. I was just like you when I was in highschool. My hubby now says I have no friends, but you know what I told him? "I don't need friends when I have family, becase it would take time away from my children" I have always felt more comfortable around older people or mostly guys. I have a ton of guy friends at work and love them just like I do a girl friend. Girls I feel tend to judge more and compete. I can't stand friends who show off or think that they are better than someone else. Girl I feel ya!! I'm just like you are.Misty
Date: 10/17/2004 5:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 26363    I do! I've been to many movies alone and spent many nights alone to myself in the house. I think though it's cause I tend to befriend guys before girls and they just seem to have a different agenda to girls. Won't catch them watching a girlie movie! LOL In saying that, it would be nice to have some closer girlie friends though.
Date: 10/17/2004 5:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 30401    I'm like you, I enjoy being alone sometimes. I really don't have very many friends at all. Most of my friends that I had in high school I don't even talk to anymore. I guess it was just a superficial friendship. Sometimes I really don't like hanging out with other girls because it's so complicated. I agree, I think it's crazy how so many people in society think it's wierd to go to movies alone...or a restaurant. I think it's perfectly fine. I enjoy my alone time. So, your not alone! good post.
Date: 10/17/2004 7:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 52489    I am frequently alone, and I love it! I have my core of good friends, my crowd when I want it, but I am perfectly happy being by myself. I prefer going to movies with a friend, but it doesn't kill me to go alone, either! Part of it has to do with the fact that you're female, and people are used to seeing women accompanied by someone. Yes, this is a sexist custom! My advice is just say something like, "No, it's not sad. It's my choice." That'll shut them up!
