1) I really don't have much of an opinion on hypnosis because for one I don't know a WHOLE lot on it, but on what i do know I personally wouldn't use it unless if it was out of curiousity. I would never use it as a hopeful solution to a problem. 2) I have never used it and probably wouldn't either. 3) If i DID use it, it would be because i was simply curious as to how it worked. 4) I would want to see something that WASN'T in your own home. I would want it to be professional - neat and tidy and someplace that I would feel comfortable in. 5) None. 6) I really am unsure. Hope I could help you, Phe! |

Hi, Phe. I will try to answer your questions. 1) I think it is a great tool for unlocking the subconscious and dealing with issues that can't seemed to be healed in other fashions. ... 2) I certainly would use it. I haven't yet, but I do have a friend who has written books about it and has done wonderful things for people with health issues and emotional issues ... not to mention some fascinating past life regression information. ... 3)I would want to find out about past lives ... but would also like to use it for habit control (smoking...LOL). ... 4) I would expect to see a room that was soothing and comfortable. Maybe some plants, soothing colors on the walls and furniture, peaceful paintings on the wall, and candles or at least lighting that was not harsh. ... 5) I would prefer a hypnotherapist who had some understanding of counseling because sometimes some pretty emotional issues can come up ... and you would want a therapist who had some knowledge of how to deal with it. 6) Probably that it wouldn't work...or at least take a bit of time before it worked... and they would be impatient with me. I think sometimes trust is an issue ... and for some it might take some time to become comfortable enough to develop trust. I think it is important for the therapist to explain to the person that sometimes it takes more than one session for it to work and that's okay ... and also to assure them that they are the one who is always in control of themself, as opposed to the therapist...and that the therapist is not going to make them do anything or go deeper into their subconscious than they are comfortable with. ... Hope this helps. Good luck with your training...it's a great field! |

Thanks for the comments so far and DW even tho yours isn't supportive of me :p j/k it's still welcome. Yes trust is an issue but what I like about hypnotism is that the patient can not be made to do anything they don't want to. They have awareness and if I tried to make someone do anything they didn't want to they would either refuse or come out of their state, it's a nice thing for me to use to ease my patients fears about it. I do want to move towards other feilds of therapy to inculde in my practise. I hope to, at one point to add counciling (both individual and couples) and perhaps sexoloigy and open a wellness clinic that will give a diversity of alternitve treatments that do not include medications but the strength of self thru guidance. I originally wanted to be a psycologist but 7 yrs of full time was just not do-able right now and I have some back of the mind worries (what if I get that one patient who is out of control and I don't realise it? what if I misdiagnose someone and they are worse then I realise) so I started looking to other areas that seemed intresting and positive but didn't take 7 years of university. I'm start with hypnosis because it seems like a good basis, it is currently in the same state as psychology was when Freud first presented it. It has a bad image to break of only being used in entertainment. I do hope to eventually get my doctorate in it as well. LadyNx thx for your comments they are really helpful :) |

I was only teasing DW :p :) I know your supportive and I think your answers were great because it's probably a common thought for many. :) I'm thinking when I start practicing it's going to be at a local women's center that see's a lot of abused women and I'm hoping I can use hypnosis to help them gain more trust and self confidance in themselves but we'll see. I have to pass it before the board there which is a bunch of cycnical older socialites lol. Fun!! |

1...I feel a bit wary about hypnosis. 2...I dont know if I would, and I have never used one. 3...If I was to use one it would be for stress, anxiety. 4...A huge fish tank full of beautifully coloured fish. 5...Nothing. 6...My biggest fear is not being in control of my thoughts and actions also I would be frightened I wouldnt come out of it...hugs |

Thanks for the comments Zema :) Just to reassure you, your fears are quite common. Hypnosis is not sleep, you are still concious during it. The only problem may be that you are so relaxed you don't want to come out of it when instructed in which case the therapist will let you relax and come around when your ready. The term Hypnosis was set by Dr.James Braid (1795 - 1860) and he realised too late that it was technically flawed. Hypnosis comes from the Greek word 'hypnos' meaning sleep and hypnotherapists inadvertantly continue the illusion that it is sleep by bringing patients out of hypnosis with the terms 'wake up' or 'awaken'. Some people are more comfortable with Freuds technique of psychoanalysis over hypnotherapy but most experts agree free assosciation techniques were hypnosis by another name. As for lack of control, the patient always maintains control. The theripist can not make you divulge any secreats or do anything you wouldn't normally do. When you see people participating in a hypnosis show they know they are there to have fun and will be less inhibited, think of it as an excuse to fool around. If someone tells you they don't remember what happened they are fibbin. Also if there is ever an emergancy during hypnosis you will come out of it immediatly. The biggest thing with hypnosis is if you don't want to be hypnotized you won't be. I personally have been 'put under' about 6 differnt times. 2 were therapudic relaxation which were just incredible! The others were for shows, one time I was not at all hypnotised but I didn't want to make a fool of the hypnotist so I went along with it anyway. Just thought I would put that in there so if you ever do go you will feel more at ease about it :) |

I went to a group one to quit smoking. It didn't work. He said it was because I was too analytical. Everytime I felt myself go under it felt like someone walked by and hit me really hard!! I opened my eyes and there was noone around me. Knowing all this I probably won't ever go to another one. Good luck with it!! |

Sunni, it's funny you say that cause I think thats my only problem when I try to do self hynosis or audio (like tapes or cds) I get other hynosis tapes to try out other people's styles and they are so different it's too intresting lol. Rather then just let myself go I find my mind starts analyzing what I'm experiancing. Maybe this is because I'm studying it now...I don't know. I have a multi-tasking brain so to concentrait on one thing is extreemly difficult. If I ever figure out a way to get past it I will let you know lol. |

I went to a hypnotherapist for my weight several years ago and while in her waiting area I read where she also did past life regression. Since this really intreagued me, I thought the heck with the weight, I would like the past life better. It was an amazing experience, of which I have written, and I would love to do it again someday. I see you wrote this in 2004, hope you are doing well in this field. |
