Which USM was better?*correction made*

Seriously, I miss the old USM personally, you know like before we lost Osiris, when hugo romped around. It just seems like the debate section moved so fast back then and the debates got so heated that we all almost got banned. It just seems like now the debate section is alot of people trying to kiss up to the older members and its nothing more than a kindergarten class calling eachother poopieheads and such.

so which Debate era was better?

Date: 10/16/2004 10:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 53836    r1 was banned? this is news
Date: 10/16/2004 10:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 62265    I wasn't here in the older usm days, but that sounds fun! >>>the debates got so heated that we all almost got banned.<<<
Date: 10/16/2004 10:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 53836    he must've JUST got banned...I swear there was a debate by him up just yesterday...*pulls on sleuthing cap and wanders over to debats*

Date: 10/16/2004 11:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 1799    he posted just yesterday.
Date: 10/16/2004 11:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 33925    I try to stay out of the debates..seems lately though that they are being carried over into the discussion section. I think its because we cant delete replies in the debate section.
Date: 10/16/2004 11:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 16916    I do remember when the debate section was more heated. Heck I almost got myself banned a couple times. I think people started taking it a little to far and were forced to either slow it down or get banned..those debates did get pretty offensive though.
Date: 10/16/2004 11:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 27558    you still get heated debates around here
Date: 10/16/2004 11:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 53836    personally, I think the differences in opinions in debates leak into the relationships of the posters and sometimes causes a lot of anymosity in the past in between members here. At least that's been my observation. The religious debates were the worst. They brought out the worst in both Christians and Agnastics and Witches alike...nobody was a good example for the group they spoke for.
Date: 10/16/2004 11:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 61013    hmm I dunno I haven't been here but like a little over two years like 2 years and 2 months. *hugs* Love Always, Keri
Date: 10/16/2004 12:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 62267    I miss the old USM also. We use to have more stories too just not all quotes and stuff...we use to have some really good stories.
Date: 10/16/2004 12:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 28190    I never was one to debate on here a lot, so honestly I couldnt tell you which was worse or better. I have seen though a lot of personal lashings continue even after the debates were over, on all sides. I don't classify that as a good thing for anyone. This is the first I have heard that R-1 was banned too..but then again I havent been here much lately. *hugs*
Date: 10/16/2004 12:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 11240    I will say this for the "old" era: At least I felt the urge to comment a lot more. God Bless.
Date: 10/16/2004 12:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 37843    R1 was banned?? I just saw a comment from him a few days ago... I haven't been in the debate section for a long time so I don't really kno which is/was better.
Date: 10/16/2004 1:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 60792    I miss the usm from 2 years ago......lol sorry. I know I can't say things are not like they were back then because I barely come up here anymore....I just pop in from time to time. But I think things took a drastic change after the fee was instated....
Date: 10/16/2004 1:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 62246    I don't know if I've been here long enough to tell, but those debates you described sound interesting.
Date: 10/16/2004 1:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 62267    Ya I use to want to comment alot more also....I miss those heated debates as well...it was fun.
Date: 10/16/2004 2:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    Me too deb, I think I responded more back then. But now, if things get a little heated then seems like everything gets deleted. And then now there is still the name calling, but not all of them get deleted for their attitude. Oh well. As far as r1 he is still here. YEP I miss hugo's funny stuff too.
Date: 10/16/2004 3:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 4548    lol rad built other sites to contain us. join us if you dare...

Date: 10/16/2004 6:31:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 22080    i never knew of these sites....jez you know i deserve the hookup
Date: 10/16/2004 8:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 47162    I've been banned? That's news!
Date: 10/16/2004 8:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 62915    I wasn't around then but I would love to see more debates happening. I really like hearing other people's opinion and as long as it doesn't get personal it shouldbe fine. ghost-chick
Date: 10/16/2004 8:55:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 22080    you would've hated the old debate forum
Date: 10/16/2004 10:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 47296    I preferred the old debates where you could at least say your piece without getting deleted. Yes, they were heated, but everyone knew where people stood on various subjects. Unfortunatley, we have people now that want us to be all nicey-nicey to each other, and telling the truth can get you deleted, if not banned.
Date: 10/16/2004 10:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    yes jestr there are several of them, been around for over a year or so. BOY can they be something.LOL
twospirits,amen.

Date: 10/17/2004 2:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 21867    *agrees with TwoSpirits* I preferred the old debate 'rules' and administration...replies got certainly get a lot more heated and passionate before the plug got pulled. I wouldn't say it was necessary more 'free' or 'lax', instead it was like there was an understanding that often 'debate' revolves around some very deeply held beleifs/opinions...as such its more likely that people will become more passionate and thus more 'aggressive' in their responses. This however had its benefits...it allowed those who engaged in some good ol verbal sparring to actually gain a deeper understanding of their 'foe'. Back when i joined I can recall having more than a few full-on 'knock down drag 'em out' verbal battles with a number of members here today. In the beginning I will be honest enough to say I disliked those people whom I 'debated' with, and believe me we were opposed to throwing in a few cheap shots here and there at eachother. But you know what, during each engagement we learnt more and more about what the other held true...more and more about how that person ticked, what they believed in and who they were OUITSIDE of just a name/tag on USM. These people I now have much respect for...for through 'battle' came respect and understanding. Look...theres one just up there now ^^^^ Deb/FB...oh, I'm sure we even DID use the kitchen sink to hit eachother with one time *lol* HI DEBS!. Peace,
Date: 10/17/2004 3:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 21867    ...and to absolutely cheapen my reply with a quote from a Matrix movie *smile* "You do not truly know someone until you fight them" - Seraph
Date: 10/17/2004 4:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 52155    Jestr, you've been to Dizzy's discussion board. That is one that Jez was talking about.
Date: 10/17/2004 6:16:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 22080    oh... as for agent smiths comment, i think everyone not agreeing with FB had that happen. we were a stubborn bunch back then. i think i actually didnt get politically educated till i started hanging out here. in face this debate section helped me pass governent class with a 98. woot woot
Date: 10/18/2004 7:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 11240    Join if I "dare"? If I dare to CARE to be involved with such vile word usage and images as I have seen at some of those other sites. Hmmm. Right. The "alternative" to no heated, passionate debates at USM is to go "R" rated. What a choice. God Bless.
