A group of Texans are driving down the road, whooping it up, drinking beer and shooting off their guns when they get into an accident with busload of nuns and orphans, killing everyone. The Texans go straight to Hell. When they arrive the Devil is shocked to see that they are not in agony over the heat and he demands an explanation. "Well, sir, we're from Texas, and we're used to the heat," says one. This infuriates the Devil and he cranks the thermostat up to its highest setting. The lost souls all over hell start wailing. "I'll check on them in the morning and see how they like THIS." He snorts and disappears in a ball of fire. The next morning, the Devil shows up at the Texans' camp site, and sure enough they are showing some signs of discomfort. They have taken off their 10 Gallon hats and are fanning themselves. One has even rolled up his sleeves. "Well, sir," explains a Texan, "when you have been on a cattle drive in Lubbock during August, this ain't hardly nothing." The Devil is now so angry he is seeing red. "Those darn Texans seem immune to heat, let 's see what happens when I turn OFF the heat," he says as he heads to the thermostat. "I'll check on them tomorrow." So in the morning the Devil arrives at the Texans' campsite, and they are all whoopin' and hollerin' and drinkin' the beers from the ice chest in the back of the pick up, now that they have ice to chill them with. The wail of the lost souls is deafening but the Texans are partyin' like there is no tomorrow. "I don't get it," the Devil says, completely defeated. "I tried to roast you and it had no effect, and then I tried to freeze you and you are partying. You Texans are made of tough stuff. But why are you celebrating?" A Texan takes a swig from a Bud in a longneck and replies, "Look around! Hell is frozen over. That's just gotta mean there is another Bush in the White House."

Not all battles are being fought in the Mid-East, not all warriors wear uniforms, and medals are seldom given when your opponent is a hurricane, but there are heroes just the same and people just trying to save their homes and help their neighbors. Today from Florida...
Just a few thoughts today now that I have partially settled down from this past weekend and Jeanne has finally made the turn and gone north!!! I'll start with a bit of info.... Did you know that Ivan just might, slim chance...but possible, come back into the Gulf and redevelop into a hurricane again??? It is the craziest storm....just won't go away. Went all the way up north into the Atlantic and then a portion broke off, came back down to FL and crossed the state dumping buckets of rain on us, moved out across the Gulf, redeveloped into a tropical storm and hit over in TX/LA area and now has that slim chance of going over the warm Gulf waters again and becoming Hurricane Ivan once more!! The storm that won't go away!!! RE JEANNE: I am not a scaredy cat and I am normally a person that can handle anything and any type of emergency, have had to from the time I was a young teenager, but I am worn and frazzled and just want to sit and weep! There are no words to express the stress as you sit here and listen to the roaring and howling of the wind and wonder if the next gust puts a tree through your roof or just picks up your roof and carries it off or just simply collapses your home! It is such a helpless feeling because there is not a thing in God's world you can do to stop it! You can't protect your home, belongings, your loved ones, not even yourself!!! So frustrating!! I know exactly how it feels just as does most of FL. We all feel so helpless and so weary and stressed. We have over 2 million people in the state right now without power! I am so grateful that we are not in that count...just by the grace of God! My nephew in Orlando had a neighbor's tree go through his roof into his kitchen from Frances. He still just has a tarp over it as the roofers are taking care of the worst cases first and will eventually get to him. At least the tarp held through Jeanne. Told you how fortunate my son was in Pensacola after Ivan rampaged through that area! That was a miracle!!! My sister-in-law's two daughters go to college at Central FL in Orlando. They had a lot of damage at the school from Frances, lost their gym, etc. Don't know how the college fared from Jeanne but do know my two nieces are ok although one was without electric in her apt. We all feel blessed that it wasn't any worse and no one was injured! We can only take heart right now that there is nothing on the horizon for the time being and with God's help, there won't be for the rest of this hurricane season. PLEASE, GOD!!! Amazing just how resilient most of these seniors truly are! There hearts are broken but not their spirits! They have such a wonderful quiet strength about them. They will be fine, it will take time, but they WILL rebuild! Their stories are so heart wrenching that I had to turn off the TV. Didn't want to see or hear anymore! I heard that this was the biggest relief effort the Red Cross has ever had in this country and I can believe it!!! GOD BLESS THE RED CROSS AND ALL IT'S VOLUNTEERS!!! The power workers have done a Herculean job over the past several weeks! They have put in very long, hard hours! Some of them were up in the buckets restoring power before the storm was even past us yesterday. They are stretched so thin and are so exhausted but they keep going and working all kinds of hours trying to get power back to the masses. GOD BLESS THEM ALSO! The aid that is pouring into the state from all over the country is not to be believed, the volunteers that are coming in to help, the number of them just staggers my mind! It is an Army of good people with giving hearts! The neighbors looking out for one another and helping one another is so heart warming to see and hear about! People that never knew each other but lived next door or down a few doors from someone that needed help are all working together! The tragedy of all of these storms has brought out the best in most of the people! The music of the day today was the sound of chain saws everywhere. Just neighbors out cutting up trees that were down in the yard next door or up the block! Anyone with a chain saw was out helping! People are amazing and tragedy seems to bring out the best in all of us! It really puts a positive spin on human kindness...it still exists!!! These are just a few of my thoughts the day after Jeanne...reporting from Hurricane Central...
