Calling all DSL or CABLE internet users....I need some advice please : )

I just applied for a work-at-home position but it requires a DSL or Cable connection.

Does anyone know which is better, some pros and cons for each or the average costs? I know I could research this online myself but I wanted to know what those who use them think of their quality.

Thanks :O)

Date: 9/28/2004 1:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 62732    Have had both, DSL we had nothing but problems with. Love the cable connection. Only downside is it can be expensive. But in my opinion, it's worth it, especially for a home business or job. *kriskris*

Date: 9/28/2004 1:48:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    The only thing I'm concerned about is that we currently have satellite dish for our tv. Maybe it would be better to get satellite for the internet too?
Date: 9/28/2004 1:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 62732    I haven't heard many good things about the satellite access. I know one person that was charged something like $600 to add it and it was some outrageous amount each month and the typical if the weather was bad, so was the connection, etc. Definitely check around before making any decisions. Can be big price differences and such. Good luck! *kriskris*

Date: 9/28/2004 2:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 12103    Well we have Cable..We have never had DSL..but cable has always worked good for us
Date: 9/28/2004 2:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 53961    I have DSL with my phone. I love it! I can talk on the phone at the same time I use my compouter. Downloads come down quickly. I have never experienced a down time, whereas I understand with cable DSL if your cable goes out, which can happen often, that you lose your cable DSL as well.
Date: 9/28/2004 2:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 62722    CABLE is best by far, we have DSL and it sucks, they said we would get more channels, well, we do but they are all mostly "paid programming" yet, I love their remote because it is "interactive" kinda like a computer mouse, plus a lot of the channels we got for free on cable we must pay for them on DSL, thats all I've got
Date: 9/28/2004 2:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 55386    Don't try satelite, I heard it's REALLY bad, especially in the winter (if you get snow storms)DSL is pretty fast, but I've heard there are so many problems with it. I find cable works well. It's fast, reliable, and better than dial-up. Also pretty cheap.
Date: 9/28/2004 2:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 11097    We used to have dial-up and also AOL... and then we convinced our parents to get cable and its awesome! The only thing is if you have more then one computer you will have to buy Linksys (what we have) and connect the other computers to the main computer using these and sometimes they can be annoying but other then that I really like cable.
Date: 9/28/2004 3:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    Hmmm, lots to think about but great info guys, thanks.
Date: 9/28/2004 3:05:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    Paula, I'd like to be able to talk on the phone and surf at the same time. Good point about the service going out if the cable does.
Date: 9/28/2004 3:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 23075    we've had DSL as well as Cable...I ended up going back to cable..much faster
Date: 9/28/2004 3:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 38406    I have DSL and I love it. I'm online within seconds. It's great. Sometimes it's slow but that's not because of the DSL it's because of my computer. I would go with DSL because you can talk on the phone and I think it's cheaper than cable.
Date: 9/28/2004 5:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 22308    DSL is much more efficient than cable. its a faster connection rate and it has great quality all around. i'd definitely recommend dsl
Date: 9/28/2004 10:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 35160    i have had both, and of the two . i like cable better. prices for both SUCK. but it at least its fast. and im not being booted all the time like dial-up.. :D:D
Date: 9/29/2004 8:19:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    YankeesGirl...I'm kind of leaning that way now because of the cost. Thanks for the info.
Date: 9/29/2004 8:20:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    Hmmmm....it might be a tie here between DSL and Cable. I guess it will all be decided based on cost and installation fees. Thanks so much EVERYONE for your feedback! :O)
Date: 10/28/2004 10:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 53961    Well, since replying to this I have changed to cable, both with my phone and Internet. First, they are taking forever to hook up my long distance provider (because it's not their company, no doubt) and last weekend I got hit with a virus big time. Wiped out all my programs, including my virus protection. Now, I have a fire wall, virus protection, pop-up and adware protection and am getting ready to install a router. Then I should be really protected! So, just be aware, it may not be easy.
Date: 10/28/2004 10:30:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    You know you are SO RIGHT...I'm wondering if it's worth it at all at this point? The cost is so high for these also. Thanks for that updated info. :)
Date: 1/24/2006 12:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 34814    I love my DSL :)
Date: 1/24/2006 10:13:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34487    I wish I could afford it...I'd get it.
