Yes I do, My friend ashley always has something wrong and always tells us constantly because she wants sympathy. Half the stuff we have found out is not true. I think its ridiculous how some people do this. |

My sister-in-law is a hypochondriac. Always has the latest illness, etc., etc. My hubby and I have realized that everytime she comes down with a new illness, there's a commercial for a new prescription on t.v.. I'm to the point I just don't listen to her whining. She's 27, lives with mom and dad, doesn't have a boyfriend, works part-time, on and on and on... *kriskris* |

Yeah, I know someone who publically displayed their "rightful" pain over a situation yet neglected to tell listeners the full story so they could hear for themselves that the situation itself was extremely difficult for all concerned and that person was not deliberately hurt out of spite. |

People like that drive me crazy. I would write a longer answer, but I'm too depressed, since my parents abandoned me as a baby on the steps of the local orphanage and I have diptheria and my house burned down the other day. *Sigh* |

Just ignore them. I had a friend in highschool who constantly cried at lunch because she wanted the boys to feel bad for her. It was incredibly annoying. We all ignored her, including the guys, and eventually she stopped. However, be able to determine the right time to listen and the wrong. Sometimes people really just need a listening ear. It'd probably be a good thing to find out if these people are just looking for one person who cares enough to let them unload here and there. |

Yes! I call them emotional vampires! If I'm not succesful in diverting the conversation then I will politely excuse myself, but in saying that you get those that call you constantly or come by at all given hours seeking sympathy. The last person I knew like this finally tipped me over the edge. I just finally had to tell her as it was and that I didn't think we could remain friends anymore. She said "Well!" and hung up on me and I never heard from her again! Thank the stars because just a few minutes talking to her and I would feel so depressed that I felt like killing myself! I know exactly what you are referring to and frankly I just haven't the time of day for it. |

Eww...There was a girl I was friends with and I didn't realize it at first but she had so many pity stories. Sure, bad things happened in her life, but I honestly didn't need to hear about it EVERYDAY. She was also a hypochondriac. Well, we're not friends anymore because she annoyed the boogers out of me. So now she looks for sympathy from all my other friends...Cheese, give me a break... |

A so-called friend of mine, Ellen, is a sympathy jerker. I've got to where I stay away from her so I don't give her something to cry about. I get tired of hearing the "woe is me" crap that pours from her lips. |
