A body wave never did me a lot of good. My hair is straight as a board and a body wave would still go flat for me. I got perms with curl in it, not tight ones though. After I began lightening my hair, I stopped because it made my hair frizz and I was afraid I would burn it up. Some hairdressers will put them in because you ask instead of what is best for you. Hopefully you have a good hairdresser who would advise you of what is right or wrong for your hair type  |

Yup they are also called Body waves.. And they are a bit less drastic than the regular perm.. however it can dry out your hair.. so make sure that if you color treat your own hair you let your hair dresser know before hand.. if you hairdresser colors the she will know when the right time to perm will be.. WELL, perms are very bad for your hair. when I was about 9 My hair was past my buttocks I loved my hair but I insisted that I had to have a curly perm so I got one and That was the end of my long hair I had to get it cut all the way up to my chin and shaved in the back because all of my hair was DEAD. It was horrible now im 18 and i have my long blonde locks back but I would never get a perm again Noway. too much heat for our hair. also I heard that for the african american woman. When they get there hair permed straight at a young age it ruins there hair to the point that it wont grow anymore and thats why they have to wear weave. NOW I dont know if thats true but I know it is hard for african americans to grow their hair. DONT DO IT. im telling you. you will regret it. If you want some cute hair styles I can help you out.  |

my hair is very flat and I can get it to curl really really nice here are the steps that I do. Now youll need a good hour okay.
1. when you get out of the shower wrap your hair in a towl this makes it silkier for some reason I think.
2. put hair gel ( a # 4-7 level ), hair spray, and moose, whatever on the floor for easy grab
2. brush it out, then flip your head over and brush it out again, like brush it while your head is flipped
3. lossen it with your fingers.
4. glob some hair gel on your hair and hurry up and run it through your hair before it gets too dry. I know my hair drys fast at the ends.
5. keep scrunching it up adding gel, dont use so much hairspray yet. and ide advise not to use moose it just makes it wetter. you want it to be sticky when its wet because thats whats going to make your curls so curly, so kind of glob it on hitting every spot scrunch it all the way up to your scalp each time. all this and you are still bent over, yeah it hurts your back but you get use to it.
6. take your blow dryer and put it on low and dry it while you keep scrunching it up add some hair spray, then some more gel if need, some more hair spray.
7. Flip your head up. Okay its not going to look pretty right about now because its still all wet looking. use your fingers and toss it around scrunch the left, then scrunch the right.
8. then bend back over and use the hair dryer.
9 then flip up again scrunch left scrunch right
10. bend back over and use the hair dryer.
keep on bending back up to scrunch then bend back over and use the hair dryer.
keep doing this untill all of your hair is cry and boy it comes out very very nice its not all crunchy either its real soft and the curls are so curly. I did this to my hair this morning and its nice. If you are going to do this. do it in every little detail I told you because every step counts. Try it you will love it.

opps sorry. I ment to say keep doing that untill your hair is dry. The parts that make it look so nice are for some reason your hair curls better when your bent over and using the hair dryer really makes it look so natural so keep scrunching while bent over and blowing it at the same time. thats why you should use more Gel then hair spray so it comes out soft |

Independent, how heavy is your hair when you get through with it? @_@ I would try your technique if I had the time, but since I have the baby, I don't even have time to get dressed half of the time. I'm going to get a perm soon. I have board straight hair and it's usually flat. I've had perms before. You just need a conditioner for permed hair, and it shouldn't dry out.  |

I know someone that got a body wave and after about 3 weeks she started straightening it because it got too frizzy without hours of work and a boat load of product. About 3 weeks after that it went straight. I wouldnt do it...  |

hehe acually my hair feel light and bouncy. its not hard or anything. My hair is really really flat even flatter then flat because its sooooo long. its take me an hour because of my hair is so long so it might take you a shorter time. but my hair is also thin so |

I'm a hairdresser, and it all depends on a lot of things whether or not you should do it. Realize that your hair is going to spring up a lot when you get it permed, so you may want to grow it out a little more first. Also, be sure she is using a damage-free perming solution (such as ISO) Body perms can be beautiful, especially if they are spiral wrapped, with more than one size of rods used (this will make it look more natural). It is always up to you, and there are other options to make your hair fuller, such as adding shorter layers into your hair, blowdrying upside down with a volumizing mousse, or using volumizing products.  |
