if you haven't been working out, it takes a couple weeks to get into shape. Give your a body a chance to adapt to the activity before you cop out. Also, I'm a big fan of easing into a routine-- I mean, it's a competetive sport, so you have to push yourself, but there's no need to feel like death at the end of each practice-- I call that over-exertion. Starting out, you shouldn't try to keep up with the fastest runners if you can't-- find a level where your heart rate is up, but you aren't out of breath (you should be able to have a conversation while you're running). After a couple of weeks your body will get used to it and it won't hurt so much anymore. And then you try to push it a litte further each time to get your endurance up. Also, you need a 15 minute warm-up period before you start exerting yourself. ![]() |

I should add that your coach will have the best advice on how to build up endurance. Definitely talk to him to figure out the best way of getting in shape before you give up. ![]() |

wish I could help....I gave track a shot my freshmen year, gave it about a month and quit cause my body hurt and I just couldnt do it....that and at the time I had one really weak ankle which was giving me fits....so it wasn't just that I wasn't in shape or anything. I'd give it a little more time....see if you can get into the swing of things. If after a while you still feel you can't do it...then atleast you gave it a shot...and if you want to give it a shot again next year spend the summer working out and building your endurance :) ![]() |

Hang in there a few weeks. Running is hard work but if you can make it the first few weeks then you body adjusts to the work. In fact, you may begin to view it as fun. ![]() |

Give it an honest effort. You'd be surpised what you can do with a little conditioning...and conditioning takes a little time. Hang tough, little buckaroo. You may like yourself later...Best of luck in whatever you decide. Write on...:) ![]() |
