HELP!! How Do I safely remove mildew from fabric?

  Author:  49076  Category:(Discussion) Created:(8/24/2004 8:26:00 AM)

Hi all! I had a gentleman bring into me three seats from an old car he's restoring. There is some mold on the fabric, and the fabric and I believe it's polyester?

Does anyone have any old home remedies to remove the mildew, that won't bleach or discolor the material? Thanks in advance...Shaye

Date: 8/24/2004 9:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 49765    well, i had mildew problem with my clothes and the only thing I did was to put them in water that contained some bleach. One shirt faded out and the other didn't fade, but both shirts were rid of mildew. Good luck
Date: 8/24/2004 11:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 27215    Well I am going to recommend my ole friend Formula 409. It works on everything that I have ever tried it on, so I am pretty sure that it will remove the mildew. It has even removed ashalt from my daughter's clothes and that made me a strong believer that it would take out anything. Good luck with it.....................
Date: 8/24/2004 11:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 59876    i've never found a single thing that works for mildew other than the carbona cleaning formulas or bleach and i have tried everything. walmart used to carry the carbona but they haven't lately. the one for mildew is either 8 or 9 and it is a little yellow bottle. good luck.
Date: 8/24/2004 11:29:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    vinegar is pretty good at killing mildew... The mildew may leave a reddish stain, but the smell will be gone, or nearly. A concoction of baking soda and vinegar is fabulous in the washer for brite whites and fresh scents Dishwasher detergent and hot water is good, too but it usually contains some bleach.
Date: 8/24/2004 12:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 52489    Mercury's suggestion is correct. Treat the mildew with white vinegar and then dry with a hair dryer. Afterward, use baking soda to remove any residual smells.
