Internet Slang

I was reading a magazine that said teachers are getting irritated b/c more and more kids are using internet slang on papers. Such as b/c= because, u=you,...you get the drift. How many of you use internet slang on other things besides when your chatting??

I know I do, I can't help it! i never spell out 'you', and I constantly use b/c...it's just easier.

what about you?

Date: 6/24/2003 9:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 10722    The teachers have a right to be irritated. Using slang on papers just expresses the students laziness and overall gives off the "I don't care" attitude. They should also at least make the effort of TRYING to sound smart.
Date: 6/24/2003 9:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 3688    Only if I'm chatting or writing something that no one else sees. (Reminders or other little notes)
Date: 6/24/2003 9:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 1631    Internet slang: chatting with friends - ok. used on a term paper that determines a grade - NOT ok.
Date: 6/24/2003 9:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 18527    I will use it for informal emails and text messages, however a formal email or school paper with internet slang is appalling and should be given a lousy grade!!
Date: 6/24/2003 9:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 15777    I hate internet "slang" it annnoys me just to read it!
Date: 6/24/2003 9:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 43214    I do when I write letters to my friends, but thats about it.
Date: 6/24/2003 10:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 24732    I hardly ever use slang like even when on the internet or chatting. Unless it's just LOL or lmao.
Date: 6/24/2003 10:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 60018    I used to a few years ago. Now whenever I'm not online I spell it out
Date: 6/24/2003 10:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 35720    No way.. I ALWAYS spell things out even ONLINE.. I can't stand net slang and to see someone use it on papers?? That's horrible..
Date: 6/24/2003 10:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 58427    I do once & awhile when I'm chatting with my friends, when I write a friend a note, etc, but I never do on school work. I agree with Anomaly X. *Peaches*
Date: 6/24/2003 10:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 42522    The only time i write slang is in notes to my friends.
Date: 6/24/2003 10:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 53558    I don't understand it and I dislike it when I get text messages like that. Great big hugs. Take care.
Date: 6/24/2003 10:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 14464    I use that like when I write letters to friends or when I am writing notes, but never do I write like that when I have to turn it into the teacher. I think it makes people look stupid when they use language liek that on school papers. And if i used it i would not expect to great of a grade.
Date: 6/24/2003 10:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 33573    Sometimes I use "internet slang" when writing notes for classes and stuff.
Date: 6/24/2003 10:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 15904    uh uh.
Date: 6/24/2003 11:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 13546    I only use internet slang on the computer. If I was a teacher, I would get irritated too. People are getting "lazy" with their writing, when they take the slang off the computer, and into their school work.
Date: 6/24/2003 11:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 31765    Net slang gets on my last nerve.
Date: 6/24/2003 12:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    the only internet slang I use online is the 'lol' 'lmao' 'roflmao'....sometimes IMO...and OMG but that's about it....I cannot STAND when people do u for you or ur for your....to ME...and this was all the english classes I've taken and the journalism major in me screaming but it just makes you seem LAZY! it takes me SO much longer to read a post/comment when people do that...among other slangs...
Date: 6/24/2003 12:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    sorry so in other words...I don't use it offline either....in fact...I don't even use short hand..
Date: 6/24/2003 12:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 24319    I don't use slang on the internet or anywhere else, It annoys me that the person I am talkin to is to lazy to type in 2 extra letters (U= you. Or when they say "thanx" it's thaNKS, not thanx.. grrr. I hate internet slang.
Date: 6/24/2003 12:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 24856    I do not use internet slang.....guess I am just too "old school"
Date: 6/24/2003 12:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 47699    I'm with Alien and Rika on this one.
Date: 6/24/2003 1:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 53013    Use it...I hardly understand it. I always spell things out, I think it just looks silly.
Date: 6/24/2003 2:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 32193    on papers for school... i sometimes do u (try not to) and i do "i" lowercase (teachers hate that sometimes), and instead of because i write cuz.. theres more but oh well, but on notes to friends and everything.. my whole thing is i, u, cuz, lol w/e, lmao lol its crazy
Date: 6/24/2003 3:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 33925    If there is no effort put into the paper..ie: using internet slang to save time, then a low grade is the only answer..If you want the good marks, make the extra effort to spell the words correctly.
Date: 6/24/2003 4:40:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30401    lol..okay info. gathered from this post: internet slang is much looked down upon by much of usm...
Date: 6/24/2003 5:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 39370    Well, on my scchool papers, I never did write any internet slang. Even though, if I'm writing a little note myself, I'll sometimes use some slang. My most common one is w/ (with) or w/o (without). But that's only when writing stuff to myself.
Date: 6/24/2003 5:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 54968    I only use it while chatting. But in school, I never do that.
Date: 7/29/2003 4:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 49172    I don't use internet slang that much on the internet let alone my papers!
