It was one of those same old days. She sat out on the front stoop listening to her music and looking up at the sky. It was a gorgeous day outside, the sun was shining with small white clouds here and there. To bad her thoughts didn’t match those of the day. Her mind had been wandering off a lot lately. She couldn’t concentrate on anything. Her eyes didn’t shine that same beautiful blue like they always did, instead today they looked grey. That joyous look was gone from her eyes, and nothing seemed to bring it back at the moment. She took the notebook from her bag and opened it to the first empty page. Slowly she began to write a letter, to whom you would like to know wouldn’t you. She knew who she was writing to but she wouldn’t title it to anyone. At first she wrote none stop, as if she knew exactly what to say. She paused for a moment then looked it over, shaking her head she ripped it up.
Pulling her blonde hair back she began to write again. This time she seemed to put more thought into it. You would think it was long considering the amount of time she spent writing it but it wasn’t. Once again she read it over and smiled. It read:
“If I’m not waiting for you then why does my heart still think I should be. If my soul is suppose to be complete without you then why does it still yearn for you. If my mind is suppose to be at rest with this end then why do I still write. Love, Ashley.”
She took the note and folded it up gently placing it in her back pocket as she stood up. Her eyes wandered down the street and a slight smile came to her face. She started walking slowly down to one of her friend’s houses. Something changed about her in that moment she stood up, she walked as if she was weightless. At the end of the block were four guys, that’s where she was heading. She watched them as they shot hops in the driveway. One of them turned around and smiled.
“Hey Ash, how you doing? Long time no see stranger,” he said with a smile. His brown hair was hidden under a hat and his brown eyes just out of sight under it.
She smiled a soft almost loving smile, “Nothing much Jas. I been busy with some things that I needed to take care of. It’s good to see you.”
She walked around to the other side of the fence and continued to watch them. This is where it all began her story. She watched as Jas, Adam, Antony, and Steve pushed each other around trying to play tough in a two on two game. Leaning against the fence she screamed, “Time out guys.” Oddly enough they listened and Antony walked over to the fence.
“What’s up,” he asked with a crooked smile on his face as if he wasn’t happy to see her. He shook his head and looked at her.
Jumping the fence she grabbed the ball and shot. The ball hit the backboard and went through the hop. She smiled again and handed the letter to one of the guys.
“Ok mission complete. I’m out guys have a good day,” she looked at them and walked off down the street. Things would be better now right? Maybe, hopefully, most likely.
