Just a star, a faery story, part II

Fairies came from all corners of the kingdom, other neighboring kingdoms, and even fairies across the great waters (which is nothing but a stream to us but which is very wide to fairies). There were great stone fairies, and there were tiny rain fairies and fairies of every size in between. Fairies came and went for a year after the call was posted, yet no one could give the fairy a star, and this made her sad, but she had lot's of new people to meet to tide her over until she could have a star.

Finally one day at one of the balls the royal family was always holding, a disheveled little gnome walked in, he had a long beard and a gnarled walking stick. As he came in it got very quiet, for no gnomes were permitted inside the castle, as everyone knew. And the gnome looked around and walked up to the king, bowed and said, "I can get your daughter what she so desires the stars above, that she so loves"

And the King and Queen were not impressed for they had heard many tales like this before, from countless of magical beings, "Be gone gnome, for you know you are not allowed in the castle" The gnome laughed and said "fine but your daughter will not find her wish and with out it granted she will never be content" and so the gnome left, the guests were told to not tell the princess what had happened, and so many years passed and the princess still didn't have the star she so desired. More people came and went and the princess grew frustrated that no one could grant her wish. One night she asked her nursemaid "why can't any one grant me my wish?" a question to which the nursemaid had no answer.
