LOL, yea i agree, anyone who can do something like that to another person must be hateful. but then their was the shady case where the mother drowned her children because she wasnt strong enough to raise them to be god worthy children (that thing in texas with the crazy mother) She claimed she was depressed and that she thought she was doing what was best for her children but i think it was alot of bull. *hugs* |

A "hate crime" doesn't describe a situation where there those involved know eachother personally... it descibes a situation where the perpitrator hates the victim because of race, religion, sexual orientaion, etc... thats what a "hate crime" is, and it's not absurd, its the reality caused by closed minded people who beat on or kill people for those reasons... |

so why can't a crime for other reasons be called a hate crime..i mean is it not hate if it doesn't involve religion, sexual orientation etc? I mean come on! Most murders and crimes involve hate! |

yes those crimes usually involve some form of hate, but they aren't classified as "hate crimes"... your basic robbery doesn't usually involve hate, car jackings don't usually involve hate, those are random occurances... I don't make the laws, but I do write my congressman... |

I'M ZP is right. If one robs a bank, holds up a liguor store, burglars a home or hi-jacks a car, it is not a hate crime. It IS when some one is specifically targeted because of their race, religious beliefs or sexual preferences. This is the Law's way of distinguishing from random acts or crimes committed solely for taking of money or property. Murders may or may not fall into the hate crime category, depending on whether the murder was committed because of hatred against race, religion or sex orientation of the victim. Oher murders may be classified as domestic violence, or personal vendetta, or just random in the course of another crime. |

You are absolutely right. Sometimes it makes you wonder about the intelligence level when comments like that are made. Thanks for the laugh, r1. |

But doesn't the criminal hate the victim they pick out to be deserving of their criminal act? |

No Penny, the person doing the car jacking doesn't care who the driver is, they're only thinking about the money they'll get for the car or the thrill of the joy ride... same with the random robbery or mugging... |
