SCHOOLBOYS at Aldenham School were presented with beer money recently just as the school's founder, a master brewer, requested in his will.
Four hundred years ago, beer was much safer to drink than water and the Brewers Company supported pupils at the school on Aldenham Road, by donating money and beer.
Each year this is commemorated when third form pupils, aged 13 and 14, receive a silver crown from the Brewers Company.
Around 80 pupils at the school attended the beer money ceremony at the Brewers Hall in the City of London last week.
