i think in general women should be paid equal for the equal work...i also think a womans rate vs a mans should be equal... a man to get a hair cut is maybe 10 bux.. but for a woman to get the same cut(yes my mother loves the very short man style cuts) is charged 20.. that isn't right... same when it comes to dry cleaning a woman is charged more for an equal item |

what your saying is equal pay for equal work and I totally agree but equal pay for unequal work is rediculous! |

Like you said some sports it makes sense for women not to get paid as much. Because say in basketball they don't have as many fans as mens basketball. The mens teams earn so much more revenue, so it would make sense they would get paid more. Although I can't find myself caring too much about their earnings, I really don't watch sports. |

Well in sports that women don't attract as much attention in and don't bring in as much money, shouldn't get as much as men. That is what I see as fair. Just because they may "work as hard," doesn't mean squat. |

sounds right to me...but I can hardly see the male athletic majority agreeing with you! However, I feel the sports industry pays all athletes too much and ticket prices are too high...I also feel the same way about those who inhabit Hollywood...and the music industry too. |

equal pay for equal work i guess. But i am not niave, women's sport is no where near as popular as male's sport ... basketball, football, soccer, hockey, etc ... all male dominated sports. As 'unfair' as it may seem, its society for you. And when it comes down to it, the sport that the audiences favour (in paricular tv, radio and newspaper audiences) are the ones that get the most money |

I think all professional athletes make WAY too much money altogether, so I'm not the best reference on this subject. |

women's tennis draws a bigger audience than the men's event. They should be paid the same. |

i think in tennis women can't be faulted for them not LETTING us play the whole 5 sets. talk to the rule makers - i'm sure women would rather be doing the same thing as men. (as most competitive females would...)cricket, rugby, and soccer - they attract crowds? hmmmmm..not over in the US they don't. so that's a moot point, unless you're talking of equal pay in other countries - golf, yes women have different pars and different tee lengths, i agree they should be the same, because when you look at the average male golf player, he's pretty out of shape - (or at least NOT what you'd call in 'sports' shape....they're usually looking pretty 'soft') - so it can't be argued that they're any stronger than the females and thus need longer tee lengths - because as a whole they look to be pretty out of shape - so i think those tees should be equalled as well as the par's. Yes we should get the same pay for the same work - now can we make 'the powers that be' GIVE us the same amount of work, no - but that shouldn't affect the pay rate - if they want equal work in sports then let them make it available. |

jestr i very much agree that it's up to the person to have the guts to get a salary fitting. some people simply take what's offered - the ones that barter or whatever it's called - ALWAYS get more. they start out making more than ones that have been working for years in the same position get - i've seen it time and time again in the business world so it probably goes that way in the sports world too --so women out there...get it together and by god demand the raise you think you're worth or quit and feel good about doing it. anytime i've ever quit a job, i raised my salary no less than 10K the next one i got. |

actually, Jestr, in some sports - such as golf and tennis - people play for prize money, rather than having teams and contracts. That's where the debate comes in because, in these sports, the prizes are larger for the men's events than they are for the women's. |

how about they give a woman the chance to play pro football - and if she can handle it without getting killed then she gets equal pay? 8-) hehehehe |

and molly, i KNOW there would be women that could handle it 8-) there are high schools that let women play - i don't know if colleges do it yet but it's gotten less common than you think. and in basketball and all of that - - - - women could handle it. |

i meant more common. I still remember the big deal over the first girl football player, now it's all over, i've seen many the tv spot on schools with a girl or two on the football team |
