~ Hairdresser Honesty ~...........Zema

Another story to share with you...

Every woman has had her hair done and hated it - when 5inches is chopped off instead of 2 and a half....when the blonde color turns out orange or the perm leaves you looking like a puffed - up peacock.

Even when the result isn't an actual disaster, we've all agreed with the hairdresser that we look fabulous when we don't think we do. But how many of us actually say we don't like it?

No matter how confident or successful we are, honesty is difficult. If we challenge the hairdresser we fear they could criticise us by saying: "I'm doing the best I can with a difficult challenge" or "if you think you look bad now, you should have seen yourself when you walked in."

We fear that if we speak up they'll think we're vain because we think we could look better. It's also hard to complain when this will be overheard by other women who we may think are perfectly happy with their cuts.

The hairdresser has also probably done the best they can and we could be attacking their self - esteem if we were to challenge their "creation".

Rather than face these fears, most women say nothing, but panic when they face the mirror at home. Some will not return to the salon, but most will give the hairdresser another chance and if it happens again - still say nothing.

Pretty crazy, really, when we're paying good money for a service and walking out without being satisfied with it.

FOOTNOTE:

I can honestly say that I have done exactly what this article has said..got home after agreeing with the hairdresser and panicking when I got home, to try to fix it....one time I even purchased a wig on the way home as I had to go to work the next day and I worked with quite a few men, and I felt I couldnt have taken their comments, and I still went back to the same hairdresser...but now I ask them to show me the back of my hair as they snip along gradually....lol!!!!

Luv and Peace....Zema

Date: 5/13/2003 7:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    i almost cried in the chair once when the lady started cutting.. she took two snips and then i was starting to pull away from her...she was giving me a wierd look and just kept saying stop stop stop
Date: 5/13/2003 7:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    she had basically chopped off 6+inches in the front she was simply supose to taper the front to the back.. she ended up almost giving me about the eyebrow bangs... i had to go out and buy clips and clip it back.. and my drivers picture... taken the next day.. my hair looks like a puffball... it's disgusting and i have to live with the picture for 5 years!!
Date: 5/13/2003 7:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    i haven't been to the hair dressers in a LONG time. i usually have my mother do it. i do take my son though and there was only one major problem. she was cutting his hair (he gets it cut real short) she was using the "buzzers" and he started saying "ow, my ear, my ear" he is terrified of the buzzers as it is, so i thought he was being paranoid. but when i looked, he had blood all down his neck. i have NO idea how she managed to cut his ear because the buzzer things have safty covers on them. we went back a while after that and we said we did not want her. they said she was fired shortly after that.
Date: 5/13/2003 7:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 46069    hey Zema.. i sit on the other end of this article.. I am the hairstylist in this case.... having been there myself... i can usually tell when someone is not happy with their hairstyle... I make a point of making them feel comfortable enough to tell me if they like it... 9times out of 10 I get the honest response.... and alot of times its just in the styling... especailly when it comes to styling the front of the hair.. that is what people spend the most time on.... And to all you readers... from a hairstylist point of view... please make sure you know exactly what you want when you sit down in the chair.. be clear... and when you say take off an inch... show your stylist with your fingers how big your inch is ,, cause alot of times.. your inch is not the same inch at the stylists...lol...
Date: 5/13/2003 7:32:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 42945    actually I've had a few bad cuts, but fortunately my hair grows so fast that I always thought, 'oh well it will be grown back in a couple of weeks' that was my way of coping with it...lol!!! I got my daughterinlaw to cut my hair one time, and she was a good hairdresser, but this time, you could see my scalp on the left side of my head, I nearly freaked, as she then had to do the right side to even it up, I mean I wanted it short, but not that flamin short, I cried, had to go to work looking like that..well anyway, I've learnt a lot about hair cuts since then lol!!!! thanks DreamerPoet and Midnightly for your comments here...hugs to you both...
Date: 5/13/2003 7:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 55970    LOL, lucky for me, my Aunt is a hairdresser and she always does my hair for me But most of the time I just let my mom trim it a little bit for me *hugs* Love always, ~Tara~

Date: 5/13/2003 7:56:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 42945    hey SK8R, I've had some great haircuts and styles in my time, and come across some great hairdressers as well, this is just an article I was reading to help people speak up and as you say, explain to the hairdresser just how much you really want off, and hun thats a good idea about showing them with your fingers just how much you want off, I have hairdressers in my family as well, 2 are great but the other 2!!!!! thanks for your input into this hun, I appreciate it....hugs
Date: 5/13/2003 7:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    i avoid getting it cut... i wait until i get get it all up(front part too) into a pony tail then i get it cut(usually around 6 month between each cut)
Date: 5/13/2003 8:09:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 42945    gee Cage, that was bad, your son getting cut by the cutters....and another thing, my mother has compained no end about how she gets drenched by water when they wash her hair, she can't get home quick enough to change out of her wet clothes...I've told her to speak up to the owner of the salon, and mum told me that it is the owner who wets her continually...
Date: 5/13/2003 8:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 30421    Lucky for me my mom has been a beautician all my life I can be honest, and if the next day I don't like it, and want her to take off some more she does! I don't know what I will do if she ever stops doing hair
