At Annington Manor, the ghost of an Oregon senator haunts these grounds, along with twenty-five other soldiers who died there. Colonel E.D. Baker was killed in the Battle of Ball's Bluff in 1861. Sightings of ghosts in the old battlefield along the C&O canal caused the place to be nickednamed Haunted House Bend. Baker and the others are buried in a small national cemetery at the battlefield.Same source,p.211.33Degree
