HAHA, I Lied To ALL of You!!!................~SpaceCase

Yeah, I know..I said I would never write another Debate post...but I guess you can all call me a liar, because I found a topic that I am interested in your opinions on, and feel debate is the best home for such a topic.

Should a woman pro-golfer be allowed to play in men's tourneys.

The PGA is in an uproar over Annika Sorenstam, the female golfer set to play in the upcoming Colonial, in Dallas/Ft. Worth, this weekend-- an all-male PGA tournament. Male golfer, Vijay Singh, has gone as far as saying that she has no place in the tournament and is jeopardizing another Male's chance by taking his place.

The thing is, her application was accepted by the big dogs. Her LPGA card seemed to be an acceptable pass into the four day tournament, begining this Thursday. There will be no handicaps for Annika either, no the distance from the tee to the hole will be the same for her as her male opponents and her par the same as well. (Boy I hope I am getting all the golf terms right, I only watch SportsCenter because I have to!!)

{In the LPGA, the tee's are a good hundred feet shorter}

Well I say YES!! Let Annika play with the men!

For one, this female golfer's talents overqualify her in the Ladies pro-golf league, and her presense and constant wins has become quite a monopoly, leaving other hopefuls empty-handed and a bit intimidated by the ace shooter.

The big deal and SECRET is that Golf actually started as an acronym, or GOLF...Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden. So, it's been long ingrained that Golf is generally a male-only sport, and if the ladies want to take a swing, they better find their own green!!

So what's the big deal? Why don't these men just let the poor woman make a fool out of herself and go crying back to the woman's league??? Because the men KNOW she's good, and maybe there is a little more intimadation stirring beneath the surface than it appears. Those men that are so BOLDLY protesting her position in the Colonial, are the very ones waking up in a cold sweat at three in the morning.

So that's my arguement...SOME men are too chicken to let a lady come in and out-play them in their own sport. How do you feel about cross-over golfers? And is that kinda like cross-dressers? Just kidding...have fun!

Date: 5/13/2003 2:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 36766    I think women should be able to play...we're just as good, if not better, than anything men do...they're all scared that the woman golfer (I forget what her name is) will just show them up and bruise their egos
Date: 5/13/2003 2:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 53900    Well IMO there are very few things a man can do that a woman cannot so I say let her play and when she wins she can rub in their faces!!!
Date: 5/13/2003 2:44:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    yeah, LOL they can tell us what we can't do the day they squeeze a big ol' baby out, LOL!! They think she should stay in her league and she's just too good...maybe some of the men should step down into the women's association
Date: 5/13/2003 2:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 36901    I see no reason why she shouldn't be able to play. They don't want the embarassment of being beat by a woman.
Date: 5/13/2003 2:54:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    where are our male debators? LOL
Date: 5/13/2003 3:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 53284    Let her play. I can't really think of any reason that she shouldn't play.
Date: 5/13/2003 3:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    definitly. she should be able to play. the men are just scared because they know she'll probably beat them. i guess they would feel funny getting beat by a woman at a sport that was made origionally for men. lol. i say more power to her. if your good at something, then do it!
Date: 5/13/2003 3:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 53284    I don't think that most of the men care, but there are always a few idiots that the news services love to quote.
Date: 5/13/2003 3:40:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    LOL! I know, WB...but it sure has been all over the sports media.. It's not odd for a golfer to share his strong, bigoted opinions isn't it!
Date: 5/13/2003 3:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 53284    You're not going to get quoted in the media if you say "Seems fine to me, I hope she plays well.
Date: 5/13/2003 3:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 25438    Truthfully I think its cute! lol
Date: 5/13/2003 3:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 25438    Sure its fine. As a matter of fact lets throw some guys in the WNBA...and Ladies Tennis, throw some guys in ladies track and field events, swimming,....wait somehow I think that the women above may have a problem with that. Here we go again with reverse discrimination! If a man wanted to play on the LPGA it wouldn't happen. But after this I am sure one will try. Heck just for the money a man hitting off a womens tea..put tiger woods out there!! lol
Date: 5/13/2003 3:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 25438    Sorry...you put me on a soapbox. This kinda rings the same bells as the black miss america contest. Since there is a WPGA that men aren't allowed to compete in...women shouldn't be allowed to compete in the PGA. Simple as that. And since there is a black miss america, black women shouldn't be allowed to compete for the miss america contest. WHY CAN'T PEOPLE SEE THIS?
Date: 5/13/2003 4:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 42515    I'm with Blue Knight
Date: 5/13/2003 4:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    i see no magor issues with her playing if you is playing on the same grounds as all the rest of the men.. i think some of them men are just scared of being beaten out by a woman*L*
Date: 5/13/2003 6:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 54987    Vijay Singh is gonna have egg on his face if she winds the tourney. If a woman is able to play on a par (pun)with a man then she should. Navratilova, the tennis player beat lots of men, but she couldn't play against them in tournaments.
Date: 5/13/2003 6:50:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    Koolade, I wouldn't go as far to say she'll win, but it sure would be a pretty site if she scored under Singh! Blue Knight thank you for the opposition...As much as I do see your side on some of it, my thoughts still go back to the monopoly hold she has on the LPGA. Tiger Woods has his good moments, but he has had a few good loosing streaks too, making the men's playing field far more fair than the ladies. OMGoodness, I really can't believe I have such passion on a subject concerning a sport that bores the crud out of me, but from the outside looking in, and not just as a woman, I see the point in her desiring greener GREENS and bigger challenges. The men should be delighted and welcome such a challenge.
Date: 5/13/2003 7:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 42568    I strongly agree with Vijay Singh. She doesn't belong there. "this female golfer's talents overqualify her in the Ladies pro-golf league" ...but that doesn't mean she has the right to take another man's place in their league.
Date: 5/13/2003 7:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    they're definatly afraid of being beat by a woman
Date: 5/13/2003 7:47:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    hey Bethann!! *sticks tongue out and runs* It would be like you to take the man's side *WINK*
Date: 5/14/2003 7:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 25438    Like I said...lets just be fair even to the guys. If you are going to let a woman come and compete for a title AND money in the mens leagues men should be able to do the same. See how all you women feel
Date: 5/14/2003 9:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 54987    That's a good point Blue Knight... a good point!
Date: 5/14/2003 9:51:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    I really think co-ed sports would be more entertaining...I spent over an hour in the park watching a two on twogame between two hs males and two hs females...and guess who won?!
Date: 5/14/2003 8:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    co-ed would be cool and the teams wouldnt have to be all boy are all girl but a mix
Date: 5/14/2003 9:08:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    some girls like a lil' pain :O
Date: 5/15/2003 7:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 16538    This is dumb I hate all the equal-rights for EVERYTHING. Its a time honored tradition for men. They should be able to do whatever they want its there club. Now by no means am I sexist but I think women should ever be let in as long as the PGA decides otherwise its part of there own freedoms to decide wether or not.
Date: 5/15/2003 7:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 16538    And if your going to allow women into PGA lets take away WE BET and Oxygen and have the TV equal for everyone.
Date: 5/15/2003 8:53:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53836    I'm all for taking a few channels off the air Big Tex, the ones you named are just the tip of the iceburg, LOL So don't get me started there, LOL Thanks for sharing your views. I guess us women are a bit different, I doubt you'd find too many females who would get in such an uproar about the same type thing...except those womens lib chicks and yeah, lesbians, LOL
Date: 5/16/2003 5:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 47218    Usually, seperate events are required for men and women because the guys are so much larger and muscular than ladies that they would overpower the women. But if a woman can hold her own with the men, then, absolutely, let her play to see who's best. Or, are these boys afraid of being beaten by a girl?
Date: 5/16/2003 5:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 47218    But, Tex, you'd have to take TNN off the air, too. You are aware that that's going to officially be the men's television network pretty soon, aren't you. (it basically was already)
Date: 5/16/2003 1:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 62060    I dont see how u can hate equal rights for evrything tex, unless ur afraid u wont measure up... but yeah, if a woman wants 2 play in a 'man's' sport then a man should be able 2 play in a 'woman's' sport 2... funny i just cant picture mike tyson in a woman's tennis dress...
Date: 5/16/2003 7:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    "AHEM!" Friends, romans and countrymen..er eh, wrong speech..hehehe. Hello SpaceCase. I think the key word here is, "pro golfer." If the person is good enough to be clasified as such, then that person should be able to compete with other pros. Write on...
Date: 5/17/2003 2:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 16538    Afraid I can measure up? I bet you I can play any sport you can absoulutly beat you. Im not worried about how men will measure up Im worried about everything having to be politicaly correct. I would have the same opinion if it was an all womens league and a man wanted to join. So it summed up no a women shouldnt be able to join the PGA.
Date: 5/17/2003 9:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 47218    be careful of the boasts you make, Tex. I suspect that they are more than a few female athletes in the world who could beat the pants off of you playing their sport.
Date: 5/17/2003 11:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 37872    Ah who cares? I like golf, great game... but as far as the PGA goes? Boring! Hey, if they want to open up to women, go for it... it needs the ratings, besides it's not a contact sport. Combine it, I don't care. So what if some big golfer baby doesn't want it to happen, so what, then don't play, hurt my feelings, lol.
Date: 5/18/2003 8:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 62060    Tex... I doubt it. But thats not the debate here...
Date: 5/18/2003 1:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 16538    I was comparing myself to Mollycat. And of course theres women that can beat me in sports but I can put up a good fight in football and racing against a majority of women. Men are generally stronger and faster then women and thats not really arguable.
