As a spiritual person, I firmly believe in angels. But I had never seen my guardian angel until July 1996, when I awakened from a deep sleep and had the strong impression that someone was lying beside me in the bed.
Since I always sleep alone, I knew something unexplainable was happening. Lying on my side, I was afraid to look behind me. So I waited for a while, listening to my own breathing until I summoned the nerve to glance over my shoulder.
To my wonderment there was a male angel sleeping on his side. I was overcome with peace and awe. The angel opened his eyes and gazed at me with great love. I felt connected to this being and knew he was there to protect me.
He was made of pure light - with long hair and a white robe. He radiated a soft white glow.
"Are you my guardian angel?" I asked softly.
He replied, "Yes."
Slowly I drifted back to sleep as my guardian angel held me in his arms. So much of my life has been filled with pain, fear and abuse that I felt honored and humbled by this experience. I guess God decided to remind me that even while I sleep, I have someone to watch over me.
I know now that we are never alone. And I am no longer afraid.
