So Much For MSN...............................WARRIOR SPIRIT

I know there are probably quite a few people here who use MSN, either as server, for e-mail, or MSN groups. For about 4 years now, I have used MSN regurally. I have in the past managed several groups on MSN, and still have one active site. Tonight though, something happened that has made me decide to break my ties with MSN.

For two years now, I have had a site on MSN where I kept a lot of my writings, both professional and personal. I also had photos posted there. It was a private site for my own personal use, but was open to public veiwing for those who wanted to get to know me better.

Tonight, when I went to check my site, and see how many hits I had on my counter, the site was gone. Fortunately, all my professional writings have been burned to CD. A lot of my spur of the moment writing, and personal thoughts on certain subjects was lost forever though. Also lost were some photos that I did not have on backup discs.

When I went to check my e-mail, there were no messages telling me my site was being shut down. I know MSN deletes sites if they are inactive for 30 days. But I visited this site at least once a month, and also had others who went to it to see my latest writings.

I will rebuild my site, but this time it will be on a private server. It will cost me to maintain it, but at least I know it will not be deleted unless I delete it. Also, this time I will copy everything I place there into my hard drive, and will burn it on to CD. As for MSN, well, this being a G rated site, I will not say what they can do with their groups.

Date: 5/12/2003 7:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 54570    I agree with you. I paid for the priveledge of having extra space and all and used my site for storage and stuff. They deactivated it without telling me. And I had to pay for this priveledge. A lot of photots were gone and lost. I visited it at least once f not twice a week. I know what they can do with some of thier stuff thats for sure.
Date: 5/12/2003 7:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    I received an email from msn about two days ago telling me to remove my photos because they were no longer offering this service for free, only for paying customers.
Date: 5/12/2003 7:06:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47296    Joe, it wouldn't have been so bad, but some of those random thoughts I had posted there I intended on eventually putting into a book. Now I have two years worth all gone.

Date: 5/12/2003 7:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 36704    I got an email on the 6th of May saying their photo storage policy had changed and that only MSN 8 subscribers could store photos and use their photo albums, I pay for MSN every month what difference does it matter if I use 7 or 8, could it have been something like that that happened to your web page? Sorry they deleted all your things.
Date: 5/12/2003 7:14:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47296    Base, I didn't use MSN as a server, but used their free (I guess formerly free) services. The group I still manage on MSN is still there, and everything is intact. In fact, I just had three new members sign up in the past week. I wonder though why I never got an e-mail or notice that things were changing, or that it was being deleted.

Date: 5/13/2003 1:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 53427    I got the same email that Base and Release Me received. Thankfully all of my good photos are stored on www.ofoto.com.
Date: 5/13/2003 9:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    I'm sorry that had happened. That really sucks. I don't use MSN, I used to use the messager but not for long. They should of at least sent a message.
