I need advice from tattooed people

Okay I'm gettin me a tattoo probably in about 3 weeks. Yes yes I know go to a clean reputable place :D. Okay well I have some questions. My mommy will only let me get it on the small of my back and I hear that hurts extra bad. Here's a pic of the tattoo I want to get: http://www.geocities.com/christinacraver87/newtattoo.jpg it'll be about 1 or 2 inches big and either in pink or black ink. I was wondering from those who have been tattooed if they got any estimate on how long a tattoo like that (i just want lines, not filled in or anything) like that will take, and how painful it is to get one on the small of your back. Thanks any advice is welcome :D.

Date: 5/12/2003 2:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    I'd get it in black, pink will probably fade quickly. Mine is about 1 inch by 1 inch and it's filled in.....a dolphin jumping over a cresent moon and it took about five minutes....*Shrugs* mines on my ankle so I don't know what one on th eback feels like....yet .....I can tell you the best way to describe it *For me* is if you have like a BAD sunburn....take a dull razor and drag it across it....Youch! hurts but definately NOT unbearable!! trust me if I can do it anyone can! LOL
Date: 5/12/2003 2:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15675    ouchy lol! Okay black it is, dont need the darn thang fading lol!!! I read in an article that on the small of your back really hurts because it's like all the nerves meeting right there so it hurts all over your body . Wow I'm gonna have to be a big girl lol...
Date: 5/12/2003 2:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    well....I think it depends on the person. I've also heard alot of people have more fat and muscle there on the back so it may not hurt quite as much. But honest it hurts when they start but then the area just kinda gets dulled and the adrenaline is running through you so it's not bad at all...
Date: 5/12/2003 2:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    another tip someone gave me...LOL Never get a tattoo from someone who doesn't have one themself...LOL
Date: 5/12/2003 2:10:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15675    lol good tip ! See I dont live with my family in Spencer for school purposes. I live with my grandma 5 hours away. Grandma absoultly refuses to take me to get it done so I have to get it done one of the weeks i go home (after my bday party on the 23rd) so I have to pick a place in small town Iowa ! Well I wont go to fire n ice because they pierced my belly button funny without even telling me (you know where a normal belly button ring begins? Thats where mine ended and they never told me they would do it that way!) So I dunno where Im goin but somewhere in the lakes i guess
Date: 5/12/2003 2:11:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15675    oh n lol I've had a wart burned off like 4 times last year, does anyone know if it feels like that ? Basically imagine your skin literally bein so cold it burns argh!
Date: 5/12/2003 2:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    yeah I guess that could also be a good way to describe it...minus the cold sensation LOL...
Date: 5/12/2003 2:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 46527    Mine is on my shoulder blade, it was a little painful but certainly no unbearable.
Date: 5/12/2003 2:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 29775    I have one on the small of my back. I was scared to get it done because my friend said hers brought tears to her eyes. My tattoo is about 3 inches tall, 8 to 10 inches long. It is a tribal design. I have it colored in. It took about an hour to do. Now I am scared to death of needles and I sat there perfectly calm. The only time I experienced some uncomfort was when he got close to my sides like where the fatty tissue is. It was nothing unbearable though. Once the outline is done, getting it colored in is nothing. My suggestion is definatly do it in black. colors fade a lot. if ya have anymore questions send me a message. I already have 8 tattoos and I am planning on getting another one.
Date: 5/12/2003 3:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 36766    that shouldn't take too long...I have a tattoo above my ankle, it's a frog riding a skateboard, it's filled in, it only took about 45 mins...it wasn't all that painful, after about 5 minutes it started to feel really good...I plan on getting another tattoo this summer, the things are addicting
Date: 5/12/2003 4:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    mine is on my ankle as well. it's a dove with TONY (my sons name) by it with vines in a circle around it. it took about 45 minutes. it didn't hurt much until he got to the white part! now that hurt!! he said the white paint is thicker so it hurts more. if i knew that, i would've passed on the dove. lol. my friend has one on the base of her back. she said it really didn't hurt all that much. after the first couple of pricks, it all goes numb anyway. i plan on getting another one soon too. my one friend is completely tattood. he warned me before i got my first one that they are addictive. i said "no. not for me. i just want one." LOL. they ARE addictive. lol
Date: 5/12/2003 4:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 25390    I have one on my ankle (a treble clef), one on my shoulder (a butterfly), and one on the small of my back...it is a daisy done in black ink with no filling. It only took about 15 minutes to do, because it was a simple design. By the looks of yours, it will probably take about 20. The one on my back was the most painful, mainly because that is where a lot of nerve endings. The least painful was the one on my ankle. However, having it done on the small of your back is not unbearable. Take a friend with you told hold their hand and talk to them and it makes it go by a lot quicker. The next day, it will feel a little like a scraped knee, but just make sure you keep your medicine on it. I also recommend getting it in black, it will show better and you will be able to see it.
Date: 5/12/2003 4:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 25390    Cage, you're right...they ARE addictive, LMAO
Date: 5/12/2003 5:25:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15675    darn Iowa wont let minors no matter what get tattos god bless south dakota he he I like living on state edges . Thanks for all your help guys
Date: 5/12/2003 5:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 30630    I know I am late, but I have 2. I have a filled 2 inch heart/dagger on my ankle. That one didn't hurt. The one on the small of my back is about 4-5 inches long and about 2 1/2 inches high. It is a sun with tribal vines coming out from behind it. It took about 4 1/2 hours and it is totally filled. The outline was the first thing he did. The sun outline didn't hurt. The vines, well the farther away from my spine he got the more it hurt. Then with the filling in, he started on the sun right on my spine. The red was first and it didn't hurt at all. Then he used orange. It hurt a little bit more. Then when he went to the yellow, that hurt pretty bad. The lighter the color the more it hurts. I have had it for 3 months and I am already planning my next one. The are extremely addicting. Best wishes!!
Date: 5/12/2003 6:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    may i suggest get the guy to change the needle right infront of you(this is a normal practice and they should do it automatically) sometimes it hurts more others it depends on yoru pain tolerance.... bring a friend with you.. someone to talk to you and for you to focus on it will help keep your mind off the fact of what is happening.. i suggest getting it all black also they will draw the outline(that often hurts more then the fill) and they will fill it in i can see it taking anywhere from 15 minutes up to 45 depending on how skilled the artist is ask to see his work before you get it done
Date: 5/12/2003 6:11:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15675    thanks midnightly i will
Date: 5/12/2003 10:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 62065    ive got one about 3in by like 2in, its of a type of star my best friend drew for me...mine wasn't that bad, it hurt alittle at first then it kinda nummed, the only place it really hurt was right over my spine when the guy was coloring it in. and yes it does depend on the person. im actually planning of getting another one soon...good luck and let me know how it goes...darkangel-1
Date: 5/13/2003 4:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 29775    thats a good one-lol the lighter the color the more it hurts. I never heard that one before. It hurts the more that they cross the same line that they already did. Like if the do a line and have to come back up the same line it hurts a little then, but nothing bad
Date: 5/13/2003 4:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 29775    if you can get your belly button pierced you will have no problem getting a tattoo.
Date: 5/13/2003 5:41:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15675    yep I've had my nose pierced (still is ) and they had to put in a twisty ring, and then i had the belly button pierced, and i've had a wart burned off, so god willing i will be able to endure this
Date: 5/13/2003 12:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 58427    One of my moms friends just got one in that area. She said that it only hurts at first but afterwards hers swelled quite a bit more then they usually do in other areas. Good Luck! (Oh I would get black!) ~*Peaches*~
Date: 5/13/2003 5:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 30630    Ummm Enferno... The lighter the color, the more ink, the more they have to go over it to make it darker. Like it really matters anyway. Everyone is different. Each has their own pain tolerance.
Date: 5/14/2003 12:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 20956    Mine took about 30-40 mins. its only about 1 1/2 inchs long
