I was unable to sleep one night because of something my fiance said to me. He told me to go to sleep or else the boogy man would get me. I had told him once before never to say that to me again. My mom use to say that to my siblings and I to get us to go to sleep at night. I was always the last one to fall asleep. Then the boogy would come. It never failed. She'd say those words and terror took over my little body. He'd always get within arms reach of me. The covers were my only protection. I still don't get to sleep well. It's not because I still see him. I am sure that it's why I have trouble sleeping. I didn't realize it till just now. That is the true reason why everyone in my family always beats me to sleep. My body and mind had been programmed from the early age of 5 not to sleep.(at least not all to quickly) My fiance thought it was nothing when I sat bolt right up. He told me to just forget about it. I couldn't just forget about it. And I wasn't even going to try sleeping. I knew I wasn't crazy. So, I looked up my problem on the internet. There it was in the words of an article on the internet. "The large man that suddenly disappeared..", how could anyone know that? It's true. He does disappear. Just like he'd appear from within the wall with the one light switch. He'd disappear. Strangely I feel better knowing that all these years I've been sleepless for a real reason. My faith in God is the only thing that will help me sleep from here on after.Thank you. |

I am 2 parts Mohawk and you do have ONE OF the Wendigo tales pretty close, but in no manner does the Wendigo ever come with a pentagram on his forehead. The version of the story you describe is in fact close but he had a hypnotic glowing circle on his forehead. We Natives are a people of our own spirits and beliefs and in no way would you find a christian symbol, be it satanic or pious, in any of our lore. The majority of the Wendigo beliefs are not based around the harbinger of bad to come though, many of the tribes more follow the canabalistic tales of Wendigo and still pass the stories down to this day. |
