The evening of Saturday July 24, 1993. Three young men Robbie Bayley, 18, Stanely Nicholas, 17, and Matt Wells, 16, went into the Bear Creek Forest(right outside of Houston). Once deep enough into the forest where no one could see, one of the boys(the family thinks it was Stanley Nicholas)pulled out a hatchet and struck Robbie over the head with it. Then left him there to die. On August 14,1993 two young boys were playing with there BB guns in the same area. One of the boys was up on a fort in a tree, and spotted the skeleton remains. On September 8, 1993,(Robbies' 19 birthday) his family reported him missing because for the first time in his life he didn't call anyone on his birthday. The family got worried and submitted all of his medical records to the medial examiners offlice. On September 20, 1993, the family was notified that the skeleton remains found was those of Robbie. Stanley had bragged that he committed the perfect murder and that he never be caught. That December he was arrested, but he said that Matt Wells did it(Matt never went to trial). Stanley went to trial October of '94. The trial was going during the bad flood that happened and it spanned over two weeks. Because of the delay the jury admitted they were ready to get it over with. They convicted him of misdemeanor negligent homicide instead of murder. He was sentenced the maximum of one year in jail. Since he had been in jail 10 months already, he was released shortley following the trial. Until this day we still don't know exactly what happened to our beloved Robbie, perhaps we may never know, but it would be very comforting to know the truth. Then and only then will we be able to, once and for all put our aching hearts at rest. How it changed my life:He was my brother. It made me look at the world in a totally different way. You tell yourself not to ever be foolish and think that it can't happen to you. But still when it does happen to you, you think how could this happento me. You can never be prepared. Because of what those heartless kids did, my kids will never meet thier uncle. And I as a young woman will never get to see my brother again!
